Report of World Alzheimer’s Day
World Alzheimer’s Day, September 21st of each year, is a day on which Alzheimer’s organization around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The department of Physiology, Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College has been organizing a health event of the World Alzheimer’s day on 21st September, every year for the past 13 years. Organized talks by renowned speakers, conducted workshops, hosted essay writing competitions, and street play for its students as part of the events on world Alzheimer’s day, with the theme – “Let’s Talk About Dementia.”
World Alzheimer’s Day-2020 was observed on 21st September between 12:30 pm the speaker Dr. C.T.Sudhir Kumar, M.D, MRC Psych, Consultant Psychiatrist, Honorary Consultant for Alzheimer’s, and Related Disorders Society of India – Kottayam, Kerala upright on “Dementia – identification and prevention”. Elaborated on the different types of dementia, and their causes, the available modalities for the detection of dementia and the currently available support system for people suffering from dementia. Also, an on-site free dementia screening camp was conducted. Faculty from the departments of Medicine (Department of Geriatrics) and Psychiatry administered cognitive assessment tests to the faculty members of SDUMC, SDUAHER.
